Spikes of Confusion

The idea for millionprisoners.org was born out of a need to fund ‘Spikes of Confusion’, which it is hoped will become the world’s biggest interactive art piece. ‘Spike of Confusion’ or ‘Coupes on Kebabs’ as a friend with an eye for a headline put it, has the climate change debate as its focus. It seems to me there is still a hell of a lot of confusion the world over, not to mention apathy due to the conflicting views we see from scientists almost on a monthly basis in the news.

So I intend to film the weathering of the sculpture in a ever changing countryside setting over the course of twelve months, in various media, in order to cut a film which will accompany the rusted forms when they are finally exhibited. The film will be accompanied by a commissioned score. The interactive element revolves around inviting kids world wide to book slots to record their own camera direction which they can do remotely from their school pc. The camera technology is there, the hope is one of the big internet video platforms will see this and think it’s a good idea and want to help construct a dedicated site for ‘SoC’.

That’s the dream anyway. I hope you like it and would welcome your comments whether good or bad (Hey, I’m just as perplexed when I see some of what’s considered art at the Turner nominations, so I’ll enjoy comparing my outbursts with the inevitable scrap iron comments). By buying a ‘pixel’ from Steve’s excellent series of cartoons, you’ll be going someway to help fund ‘SoC’. That is of course when I’ve covered the cost of setting up millionprisoners.org. As mentioned elsewhere, a week before the next election we’ll pick out four numbers from the amount sold. Each will receive one of the four cartoons. First out of the hat gets ‘After 18 miserable years it’s a brave new dawn’ through to fourth number out getting ‘Cameroon looming’. Just think, the more sold the more they will be worth. Have a look at the attachment, beware it’s a bit of a read but should explain all that I’m trying to achieve.
